Mafiga (ma-FEE-ga) means “cooking stone” in Kiswahili, and “mafiga matatu” represents the idea that we need three cooking stones to balance a pot over a fire. Nayah has often called their family unit of three, “mafiga.” Between Kiswahili and Patwa, Africa and the diaspora, we grow the roots, branches, canopy, and sweet fruit of Mafiga Tree.
